Mara Favoretto completed a MA in Argentina at Universidad del Salvador and a PhD at the University of Melbourne.
She has taught a range of subjects in Spanish and Latin American Studies, at the School of Languages and Linguistics, Faculty of Arts at The University of Melbourne since 2006.
She is currently a Senior Lecturer in Latin American Studies. Her field of research comprises popular music studies with a special interest in Argentine rock song lyrics. She is the author of Charly en el país de las alegorías (2014), Alegoría e ironía bajo censura en la Argentina del Proceso (2010) and numerous journal articles and book chapters on the intersections between power, politics and popular music in Argentina.
She is interested in supervising students in the area of Latin American literary and cultural studies, popular music and protest, political discourse and language tropes.
