Professor Stephen Davis AM, MD, FRCP Edin, FAHMS, FRACP
Professor Stephen Davis is the Professor of Translational Neuroscience at the University of Melbourne, Director of the Melbourne Brain Centre and Neurology at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and the Immediate Past-President of the World Stroke Organization.
His research is focussed on acute therapy for both ischemic stroke and intracerebral hemorrhage, particularly the use of advanced imaging in selection of therapy. He is a consulting editor for Stroke and serves on editorial boards for the International Journal of Stroke, Journal of Clinical Neuroscience and Journal of Neuroimaging. He leads a large clinical stroke research group at the Royal Melbourne Hospital/University of Melbourne, working in close collaboration with Professor Geoffrey Donnan at the Florey Institute. He is the CIA on a new Stroke Program Grant (2017-2021) which was awarded by NHMRC as the top program grant in Australia, 2015, our 4th successive NHMRC stroke program grant. He was CIA of an NHMRC CRE grant for Translational Neuroscience, 2011-2015, with continuous NHMRC support for 27 years. He has published around 500 peer-reviewed papers (H Index 75, Scopus), 3 books and >45 book chapters. Stroke research at the MBC at RMH and the University of Melbourne is internationally renowned and has provided outcomes that have directly linked to advances in therapy and changes in clinical practice.
He was the 2017 C Miller Fisher Visiting Professor at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He is a Past-President of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Neurologists (ANZAN) and the Stroke Society of Australasia (SSA). He received the 2011 William Feinberg Award from the American Stroke Association, the Bethlehem Griffiths Foundation Research Medal in 2011, the 2012 E Graeme Robertson award of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Neurologists, the 2012 Karolinska Award and the 2014 JJ
