Zaffar is an Executive Consultant at Sinclair Knight Merz’s (SKM) spatial service line and is also the Practice Leader for Spatial database management and mapping practice area. He has about 15 years of experience in consulting studies, design, development and management of spatial databases, review data framework policies, and technology including GIS applications development for major clients in Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia and India. Zaffar has published and presented approximately 35 research papers at International and National levels focusing on GIS applications to support such areas as spatial data infrastructure, data quality, natural resource management, water resources, rural administration; public health management and disaster management. Zaffar holds a pivotal role as an advisor to various National and International spatial organisations. Zaffar has been appointed as committee member by Standards Australia to review ISO 19157 Spatial Data Quality Standards as Australian representative; Member and Editor of ISO/Technical Committee 211 Geoinformation/ Geomatics; Working Group member of International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) WG II / 5 - Multidimensional and mobile data models; Program Management Group member at Australian Cooperative Research Centre for Spatial Information; Editorial Review Board member of the International Journal of 3D Information Modeling (IJ3DIM) and serves on the committee of the Surveying Spatial Sciences Institute-Victoria.
Zaffar is a recipient of the, "Young Spatial Professional of the Year - 2011" award presented at the 7th Annual Victorian Spatial Excellence Award in Melbourne.
