  • Samantha Dieckmann is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Faculty of VCA & MCM, The University of Melbourne. Working across applied ethnomusicology, music education and community music, her research interests include the development of peace, empathy and conciliation through music, musical acculturation and intercultural music education. Samantha’s PhD thesis (The University of Sydney) examines the musical lives of South Sudanese Australians, Filipino Australians and White Australians in Blacktown, NSW. Her current research, funded by the ARC Centre of Excellence for the History of Emotions and involving partnerships across the education, community development and industry sectors, explores processes through which musical engagement facilitates emotional community and intercultural understanding. She is an Editorial Board member of the International Journal of Community Music.
