Dr Xuemei Liu is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Infrastructure Engineering at The University of Melbourne. She received her PhD with research scholarship from National University of Singapore and worked as a research fellow at National University of Singapore after graduation. She then moved to Queensland University of Technology as a Lecturer from in 2013. Dr Liu is best known for her expertise in developing durable lightweight concrete, concrete durability improvement through internal curing, time-dependent deformation of concrete structures, development of ultra-lightweight cement composites with high compressive strength, impact resistance of construction materials, sandwich composite, as well as the mechanical properties of concrete filled steel tubular columns. This gives her a leading advantage in solving outstanding engineering problems in the fields of infrastructural engineering and developing durable construction materials. Dr Liu has published more than 40 international journal papers and conference papers. She has been awarded more than AU$1 million research grants from both internal and external resources. She is the Editorial Board Member of Advances in Civil Engineering. She is also an invited technical assessor (Civil) for Singapore Accreditation Council – Singapore Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (SAC-SINGLAS).
