Kim Donaldson is a Lecturer in the Painting Studio, VCA School of Art. In addition to teaching she works as an artist and curator. In 2008 she established the ongoing 'Techno Park Studios' in Melbourne’s industrial west and in 2011 began to develop its mobile arm with a curatorial project 'Technopia Tours'.
Her practice incorporates writing, drawing, painting, video, installations, performance and the curatorial. Key research interests include the artist as curator, embodied art practices, institutional critique and the curatorial. Her current 'Technopia Tours' project has included in 2012 -13 a collaboration with Sue Dodd. The first of these live video performance works was seen at StudioVisits, Berlin, in 2012 and the second at ArtStage, Singapore in 2013. Most recently in 2014, a partnership with Caroline Phillips enabled the 'Technopia Tours – Feminist Art Bus'. This event, with contributions by fifteen women artists, took a Feminist journey on a bus that toured Melbourne for International Women’s Day. Also in 2014 'Technopia Tours – Lost in Edinburgh' presented a performative artwork for Plinth Projects, Melbourne. Her research on the ‘artist as curator’ was presented as part of the 'On Curating' panel at the 2013 AAANZ Conference, Melbourne.
Kim Donaldson has a Bachelor of Education (The University of Melbourne), Graduate Diploma in Fine Art (RMIT), a Master of Art (RMIT) and is currently undertaking a PhD at the VCA School of Art, The University of Melbourne. Kim has exhibited nationally and internationally since her first individual exhibition at Gertrude Contemporary in 1986 and her work is included in both public and private collections in Australia and overseas.
