Our Research
We conduct long-term academic research, supervise post graduate researchers and deliver teaching for the University, while also having the flexibility and specialised knowledge to be able to deliver and manage collaborative, applied projects and consultancies for a range of funders in the international development sector. We work with partners across the following research and practice areas: Equity and Inclusion We generate evidence and provide technical expertise to ensure those most marginalised equitably participate in, and benefit from, global health and development processes. We work with governments, multi-lateral agencies, civil society and communities to realise global commitments to equity and inclusion. Health Systems Strengthening We support countries in strengthening the foundations of health systems – their governance, financing, workforce, information systems, service delivery, and access to essential medicines and technologies. We have particular expertise in health economics, health policy, health governance, health system responsiveness, implementation science, demography, and in using health data for decision making. Women’s Health We work to with partners to generate evidence, co-design solutions, and to advocate for women’s health globally. We have extensive experience and expertise in relation to promoting maternal health, ensuring sexual and reproductive health and rights, strengthening responses to women’s health conditions, and preventing and responding to violence against women. One Health We support countries, local and regional organisations, and international agencies to reduce health risks at the human-animal-environment interface and strengthen development outcomes. We have experience in zoonotic disease prevention, control and surveillance; surveillance and response systems for emerging, epidemic, and pandemic-prone diseases and antimicrobial resistance; animal disease risk assessment; biosecurity; applied animal health and agricultural economics; climate change and One Health; and sustainable and inclusive livestock production. Risk, Resilience and Climate We work at the nexus of disaster risk, climate change and health. We work with partners to understand, reduce and prevent disaster and climate risk, including in complex environments and with displaced populations. When capacities are overwhelmed, we provide technical support to ensure humanitarian interventions and recovery pathways are inclusive and equitable Prevention and Management of Health Conditions Our work generates evidence about effective, accessible and inclusive approaches to preventing and managing a range of conditions that undermine health globally, and particularly in Asia and the Pacific. This includes efforts to prevent and manage non communicable conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer; to promote mental health and prevent suicide; to prevent and respond to communicable diseases; and to prevent and manage health conditions of priority at different points in the life-course and in response to emerging local and regional priorities. Our researchers are improving the public health and futures of communities through global health research, education and inclusive development practice.
