Our Research
The Early Childhood Studies Academic Group thinks with the image of children, families, and communities as capable and contributing. The image underpins all of our teaching, research, and leadership activities as members of the academic group question and rethink the taken for granted and universal assumptions and understandings that are made about young children. We are interested studying childhoods that pay attention to local Place, contexts, and experiences of children, families, and communities and locating them globally. Members of the academic group consider and question the overreliance on child development and enact relational pedagogies and research methodologies to generate new and innovative knowledge that is responsive to all children, and supports them to reach their full potential. Critical, postcolonial, poststructural, feminist, and queer perspectives inspire researching, teaching, and leading practices, opening up the field of early childhood to more complex dialogues and debates.
