Our Research

SWISP Lab is an arts-based, relational Living Lab exploring how creative, participatory and speculative research can open new ways of thinking about sustainability, climate change, education and possible futures. Our research brings artists, researchers, educators, children and young people, communities and cultural organisations into situated encounters with places, materials, technologies, stories and ideas. Rather than understanding a lab as a fixed or controlled space, SWISP creates conditions for wondering, making, testing, reconfiguring and encountering otherwise. Our Living Labs are situated and co-emergent: research questions, methods and knowledge develop through the relationships that form within and across each encounter. Working across education, galleries, cultural institutions, public spaces and communities, SWISP develops and experiments with arts-based and participatory research methods including creative making, storytelling, zines, walking and mapping practices, speculative inquiry, data visualisation and public exhibition. Children and young people are positioned not simply as participants in research, but as collaborators and knowledge-makers whose experiences, imaginaries and creative practices matter to how futures are understood and made. SWISP’s research asks how arts-based inquiry can make complex social and planetary questions tangible, relational and open to participation. Through Living Labs, research partnerships and public-facing experimentation, we investigate how small creative encounters can generate new knowledge, provoke dialogue and enable different possibilities for climate education, sustainability, social change and collective futures.

Support Our Research

SWISP Lab welcomes partnerships with communities, schools, cultural organisations, researchers, artists, young people, industry and philanthropic partners who want to explore new ways of responding to climate, sustainability, education and possible futures. You can support our research by partnering with us to develop a Living Lab, hosting a research activation, participating in our projects, collaborating on arts-based and participatory research, supporting opportunities for children and young people, or funding the development and expansion of our work. We are particularly interested in partnerships that begin with shared questions rather than predetermined solutions. If you have a place, community, challenge or possibility that you think could become a site for collective wondering, experimentation and making, we would love to hear from you.
