Antibiotic use during pregnancy can increase a child’s risk of being hospitalised with infection by almost 20 per cent.
Our new study published in the International Journal of Epidemiology, found this was most likely the result of a mother being prescribed antibiotics during pregnancy that then impacted on both her and her baby’s microbiomes, as well as other shared heritable and environmental factors.
