Dr Jennifer Betts, BA(Hons), D.Psych(Clinical), is a Senior Research Fellow who coordinates the Helping Young People Early (HYPE) research program at Orygen, Centre for Youth Mental Health, University of Melbourne. Dr Betts conducts innovative research in the field of early intervention for borderline personality disorder (BPD), specialising in the implementation of clinical trials evaluating psychosocial and pharmacological interventions for young people with BPD features and their family and friends.

Dr Betts is currently the co-ordinator of, and a co-investigator on, the VERBATIM randomised controlled trial (RCT) which investigates the effectiveness of aripiprazole compared with placebo for auditory verbal hallucinations in young people with BPD. She is co-investigator on the INVEST RCT, which evaluates the effectiveness of educational and vocational supports for young people with BPD, and MYSS-HYPE, a pilot study offering contingency management for cigarette smoking cessation in young people with BPD features. Dr Betts is also co-investigator on the VOICES study, which examines the experience of psychotic phenomena (e.g. auditory verbal hallucinations, neural processing, negative symptoms, delusions) in young people with BPD via interviews and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanning.
