Christopher J. Dart is an honorary fellow in the School of Historical and Philosophical Studies and is the author of "The Social War, 91 to 88 BCE: A History of the Italian Insurgency against the Roman Republic" (2014).


He has a Bachelor of Arts (Hons), Graduate DipEd and PhD from the University of Melbourne. He has regularly held a number of positions within the School; including as a research assistant, tutor, guest lecturer, a sessionnal lectureship in 2010 and is currently co-coordinator of the annual post-graduate subject "Governance and Public Policy in the Greco-Roman World". His primary field of research is the socio-political history of the Roman Republic and early empire, with a particular interest in topics such as the legal and political structures of citizenship, political participation in the Roman world, land ownership, the history of the Roman triumph, and Roman civic, naval and military organisation. He is regularly engaged with curriculum, assessment and design for both secondary and tertiary, industry-based research and professional development, and worked as a writer, editor and producer in commercial media.
