Susan-Marie Harding

Susan is working with the Assessment Research Centre (ARC) in the Melbourne Graduate School of Education (MGSE), addressing key assessment research and policy questions at national and international levels. She is predominantly a data analyst and psychometrician, utilising the theory of Item Response Modelling to determine the validity and outcomes of various assessment data.

She is currently the Research Manager of the Linkage project 'Realising the Potential of Australia's High Capacity Students', and the leading researcher on the validation of the 'Insight' platform. Susan is currently co-supervising three PhD students.

Susan-Marie Harding completed her PhD at the University of Melbourne using molecular biology and genetics based techniques to elucidate the effects of altering proteins and cellular environments involved in Alzheimer’s Disease. Her undergraduate degree was in Biomedical Science followed by an Honours year in Molecular Biology, studying the Menkes Disease protein. Susan was a scientific writer and post-doctoral researcher before moving into educational assessment research. This scientific background has provided Susan with immense experience in experimental design, analysing large quantities of data using statistical software and communicating results in a variety of formats.

Susan has extensive experience in teaching secondary and tertiary students both practical and theoretical skills. She has tutored secondary school students in Maths, English, General Science, Biology and Chemistry. She ran School Assessed Coursework (SAC) programs for secondary Biology students in University Laboratories. She also taught secondary biology teachers new practical skills, to implement in their classrooms. Susan has demonstrated practical classes for tertiary students at all levels in Genetics and Biology.
