Kevin Davis is a Professor of Finance. Prior to his appointment at the University of Melbourne in 1987, he was a Senior Lecturer in Economics at the University of Adelaide.
His primary research interests are in the areas of financial institutions and markets, financial engineering and corporate finance. He is co-author/editor of sixteen books in the areas of finance, banking, monetary economics and macroeconomics and numerous journal articles and chapters in books. He has been a member of the Australian Competition Tribunal since 2011 and was a Director of SIRCA from 2006-2015. He was on the Board (and Chairperson) of the Melbourne University Credit Union from 1991 to 2011. He has developed and presented numerous training programs for financial institutions, regulators, and businesses and undertaken an extensive range of consulting assignments for financial institutions, business and government. He was the inaugural Director of the Melbourne (now Australian) Centre for Financial Studies from July 2005-December 2008 and is currently Research Director of the Australian Centre for Financial Studies. In 2013, Professor Davis was appointed to the Commonwealth Government's Financial System Inquiry panel, which was "charged with examining how the financial system could be positioned to best meet Australia’s evolving needs and support Australia’s economic growth", and which presented its report to the Federal Treasurer in November 2014 (www.fsi.gov.au)
