Chance is a General Practitioner and Lecturer in Primary Health at the University of Melbourne. He is active clinically, working part-time in family medicine in inner-Melbourne.

Chance teaches University of Melbourne medical students and MPH students in General Practice, Primary Health Care & Public Health. His research interests focus on the roles primary health systems can play in reducing health inequalities and improving preventive care and chronic disease management. Chance is also interested in the social determinants of health, particularly how active travel and healthy environments can reduce non-communicable disease risk; and how these factors interface with health systems. Chance has experience in both quantitative and qualitative research methods, and has worked and studied in Australia, UK, New Zealand, Canada and Cuba.
