Jarny Choi is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Melbourne Centre for Stem Cell Systems (CSCS). He is an experienced bioinformatician, working towards better understanding of cellular origins and differentiation, especially within the field of haematopoieisis and stem cells.

He possesses a wide range of cross-disciplinary skills, with many years of experience in genomics data analysis and development of online tools.

Jarny obtained a PhD in theoretical physics at the University of Melbourne, focusing on the matter-antimatter asymmetry of the universe as the main topic. After several years working as a systems developer amongst other work, he moved into bioinformatics working at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute. There he developed several genomics data analysis tools, including haemosphere.org. He was also heavily involved in the drug target discovery program in collaboration with CSL (Commonwealth Serum Laboratories).

Currently at CSCS, Jarny is focusing on building a "Blood Atlas" within the stemformatics.org framework, analysing gene expression data from haematopoietic cell types to enhance our understanding of blood cells differentiation, leukaemia and bone marrow niche. He also develops data visualisation tools, including those for analysis of single cell RNA-seq data.
