Dorothy Machalek

 

Dr Dorothy Machalek is an epidemiologist based at the Royal Women’s Hospital Centre for Women’s Infectious Diseases. Her research interests include the epidemiology of sexually transmitted infections and human papillomavirus (HPV), the use of molecular biomarkers in the prevention HPV related cancers, and evaluation of HPV vaccine impact.

Dorothy currently heads Australia’s National HPV Monitoring Program, funded by the Australian Government. The program aims to monitor the long term impact of the National HPV Vaccination Program on circulating HPV infections in Australia. Her research aims to prevent premature death due to cancers caused by HPV, by tracking and improving delivery of vaccines and screening in Australia and international, with a focus on those populations at highest risk.
