Dr Lucy Healey is a Senior Research Fellow with more than 25 years’ experience of qualitative, collaborative, participatory social research. The last eleven years have been devoted exclusively to domestic and family violence policy and practice, research and evaluation.

She was a chief investigator of a national, two-year, ANROWS’ funded project (known as the PATRICIA project) that explored collaborative initiatives between child protection and specialist domestic and family violence agencies. This involved project management of five research teams and an advisory body of practitioners and policy-makers across five states. She is currently a chief investigator and project manager of a related ANROWS’ funded project, Invisible Practices: Interventions with fathers who use violence (2017-2018). She also has a special focus on gendered disability violence. She authored/co-authored reports in the recent Voices Against Violence series (published by Women with Disabilities Victoria), and was principal author of and researcher on Building the Evidence: a report on the status of police and practice in responding to violence against women with disabilities in Victoria, which led to the development of a transferable tool designed to interrogate domestic violence sector professional standards and codes of practice for their attention to women with disabilities. Her other areas of research include the development of multi-agency partnerships and integrated systems, review of Victoria Police’s code of practice for responding to family violence, the long-term needs of women who have experienced violence, and rapid risk screening (triage) of family violence referrals. Previously, she has taught anthropology and gender studies at Monash University and The University of Melbourne, and managed research and evaluation projects for government and non-government organisations.
