Jane Cawson’s research examines bushfire behaviour and management. She has been investigating the drivers of vegetation flammability and strategies for managing vegetation to reduce bushfire risk.

A considerable focus of her research over the last five years has been towards understanding the drivers of bushfire in wet eucalypt forests. She trained as a forest scientist and worked in fire management within the Victorian government before becoming a researcher. Her PhD examined the impacts of prescribed burning on soil erosion.
