Dr Sandra Parker has made a substantial contribution to the field of dance research and is recognised and considered to be one of Australia's most important dance artists and a leader in the field. In 2001 she was awarded a Centenary Medal for Service to Australian Society and Dance in acknowledgement of her contribution to the art form.

In 2011 she was awarded an Australia Council for the Arts Dance Board Fellowship for the years 2012 and 2013 to research and develop her dance installation practice.

Throughout her career Dr Parker has received over 30 grants from major national funding bodies including the Australia Council for the Arts Dance Board, for Research and Development and Presentation in Australia and internationally; Creative Victoria, for creation and presentation and through the International cultural exchange program. These grants have enabled her to disseminate and publish her creative work nationally and internationally, including research and development projects in Berlin, Germany and New York, and published performances in China, Portugal, France and the US. Dr Parker has received two Asialink Residencies for projects in Japan and China. In 2009, her focus on China was extended through the support of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australia China Council Grant where she completed the research and development of new work. Local government and philanthropic agencies have also funded her research and development projects including the Besen Family Foundation, the Ian Potter Cultural Trust, the Copyright Agency Career Development Fund, the Dame Joan Sutherland Fund, the City of Port Phillip and the City of Melbourne.

Dr Parker lectures in both the undergraduate and postgraduate programs at the Victorian College of the Arts, School of Performing Arts and presents talks, exhibitions and performances regularly in Australia and internationally.
