Dr Christopher Groot is a Lecturer in the Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences. He has a background in large scale mental health service delivery, and has governed the clinical and research aspects of national services including the Suicide Call Back Service, SuicideLine Victoria, ATAPS All Hours Suicide Support Service, Beyond Blue Infoline, MensLine Australia, the Australian Defence Force AllHours Triage Service, Vietnam Veterans AfterHours Counselling Service, and more.

Dr Groot coordinates the first year psychology program at the University of Melbourne, and teaches primarily in areas of clinical psychology and psychological research methods. He conducts research in areas of mental illness stigma, psychosis, suicide, and mental health service delivery. Dr Groot is currently research lead on the following projects:- The National Stigma Report Card (in collaboration with SANE Australia and its Anne Deveson Research Centre). This project seeks to survey 7000 Australians living with complex mental illness about their experiences of stigma and discrimination, and is the largest survey of its kind conducted in Australia to date. For more information see: https://www.sane.org/adrc/current-adrc-projects/national-stigma-report-card- The Hearing Voices Project (In collaboration with SANE Australia and The Dax Centre) - A teaching, learning, and research initiative aiming to embed the voice of lived experience of mental illness in the undergraduate psychology curriculum at The University of Melbourne.- The Stigma about Symptoms Project. A program of research mapping stigmatised cognitive, emotional, and behavioural responses to symptoms of psychosis. (In collaboration with PhD Candidate Kelton Hardingham, and Honours students Beth Hobern and Ellen Rankin)- Does 'Schizophrenia' Matter? A program of research examining the utility of diagnostic label change in reducing public stigma about schizophrenia. (In collaboration with PhD Candidate Kelton Hardingham)- Media Reporting and Stigma About Schizophrenia. A program of research investigating the role of media reporting as a determinant of public stigma about schizophrenia (In collaboration with PhD Candidate Kelton Hardingham). - Working with Challenging Crisis Presentations. A program of research examining telephone and online counsellors' cognitive, emotional, and behavioural responses to challenging client presentations. (In collaboration with Clinical Masters student Jessica Westfold and Honours student Emma Waldron).- Clinical Correlates of Hallucination Proneness. An investigation of the clinical correlates of attenuated hallucinatory experience in the non-clinical population.
