Dr. Chandan Karmakar received his BE from Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Bangladesh in 1999 and PhD from the University of Melbourne, Australia in 2012. He is currently a postdoctoral research fellow at The University of Melbourne, Australia, where he is involved in research in the area of low cost healthcare devices, nonlinear signal processing and pattern recognition in biomedical signals.

He primarily is in charge of developing smart phone based low cost biomedical sensor development and works in collaboration with Nossal institute and CSIRO. As an early career researcher graduating in 2011, he has published over 35 refereed research papers in highly reputed journals and conferences. He has also received UniMelb early career researcher grant for 2013 to develop novel methods of heart rate variability analysis based on complex network theory. He is a regular reviewer in major international biomedical journals and features on technical program committee for several major international conferences. His current research interests include nonlinear signal processing, physiological modelling, biomedical instrumentation and pattern recognition techniques.
