Professor Lynette Joubert is a PhD qualified social worker and clinical psychologist, Professor of Social Work (continuing teaching and research appointment), higher degree coordinator, senior honorary researcher at NorthWest Mental Health and member of the University of Melbourne Psychology Health and Applied Sciences Human Ethics Committee. In addition, she is a member of the Victorian Allied Health Research Committee, and mentor to allied health and practice researchers across health services in Melbourne.

Prof Joubert is a leader in interdisciplinary health and mental health practice-based research. She is one of a small group of researchers internationally who have conducted randomised controlled trials on the contribution of social factors to improved outcomes for patients, with a particular focus on the elderly (stroke recovery, suicidal ideation, depression, oncology, elder abuse and chronic disease). She has 90 publications and has been the editor of 4 special editions of peer reviewed journals, together with 5 professional web-based reports. She has supervised 34 higher degrees to completion and is currently engaged in the supervision of 13 PhD students. She practised for eleven years prior to becoming an academic and in her current role, has continued with her research interests in clarifying, measuring and evaluating the outcomes of social interventions in health and mental health. She has developed an approach to assessment and intervention utilising social networks (social capital) that has been used in suicide risk, oncology and chronic disease. Her intervention for suicide prevention in Victoria reduced representation to emergency by 55%. She has developed the model further in her research i where there is an interaction between physical, psychological and social factors. Her recent research on a British Council Grant in Kerala India, together with colleagues from the University of York, has focused on developing a risk profile for chronic disease in a community setting, which will inform an intervention model to promote integrated care across health services and the community.
