Abi Brooker

 

Abi is a Lecturer in the Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences, at the University of Melbourne. She coordinates undergraduate subjects in developmental psychology (PSYC20008 and PSYC30016) and teaches into the first year subject PSYC10004.

She is a qualified Mental Health First Aid trainer, offering training to tutors of the MSPS undergraduate subjects. Her research interests include experiences of wellbeing and distress at university and during times of transition.

Abi completed her PhD at the Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences, investigating the educational and cultural challenges for refugee young people. She also completed a Graduate Certificate in University Teaching at the University of Melbourne, and was awarded a Teaching in Excellence award by the department in 2014 and 2017. She was a Research Fellow at the Melbourne Centre for the Study of Higher Education, where she project managed a national collaboration that identified ways in which teaching practice and curriculum design could promote students' psychological wellbeing. The project culminated in the online resource found at http://unistudentwellbeing.edu.au.
