Dr Xie is currently a senior statistician at the Melbourne EpiCentre, University of Melbourne. Dr Xie is also an Honorary Professor of School of Public Health, Xinxiang Medical University (China).

Dr Xie is also Statistical Editor of the Cochrane Library (ACE group) and a reviewer for over 10 peer-reviewed international journals. Dr. Xie holds a Bachelor degree in Medicine (MD, 1996) Masters’ in Public Health (MPH, 1999) and a PhD in Epidemiology and Biostatistics (2003). Dr Xie has accumulated some 20 years of experience and leadership skills in the fields of biostatistics, research and teaching. As a biostatistician and methodologist, Dr Xie has been involved in studies with a wide variety of different content areas, designs and settings. Her major area of expertise is in modelling the impact of chronic illness (diabetes, CVD) on public health and individual wellbeing. She also has experience and special interest in design and analysis of randomised controlled trials. To date, in total Dr Xie has been an Principle Investigator (PI) or Chief Investigator (CI) on over 20 research national/international competitive grants to the value of over $5 million (>AU$2.0 million and 3.0 million RMB) from the NHMRC, ARC (Australia), China National Science Foundation (CNSF, China), and The Medical Research Council (MRC, UK). In the past 10 years, she has published more than 75 papers in high quality international journals, including BMJ, JAMA Ophthalmology, Nature Communications, Ophthalmology, Journal of Diabetes & Metabolism, Stroke, American Journal of Kidney Diseases, American Journal of Ophthalmology, and Obesity. Her papers have been cited 1488 times in the past five years. Dr. Xie’s current research focuses on four major related themes: 1. Development, validation and refinement of risk prediction model and evaluation of new biomarkers for risk prediction using novel statistical modelling approaches for accelerating the translation of public health research into general practice. 2. Design, develop, and implement complex sampling plans and subsequently analyze resulting complex survey respondent data. 3. Analysis of Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS). 4. Evidence-Based Medicine: Meta-analysis She has more than 10 years’ experience in a research & teaching related role providing statistical analysis support. She has supervised and co-supervised 13 Master/PhD students. Dr Xie works with colleagues in Australia and internationally from a range of disciplines including public health, ophthalmology, public health, and health economics. Some key collaborators include Professor Ecosse Lamoureux (DukeNUS Medical School, Singapore), Professor Hugh R Taylor (Harold Mitchell Chair of Indigenous Eye Health, School of Population Health, Melbourne University), Professor Carol Brayne (Director of the Institute of Public Health, the University of Cambridge), and Professor Dongsheng Hu (Dean of College of Public Health, Shenzhen University, China). Dr Xie regularly provides Statistical training sessions at the Melbourne Epicentre, the University of Melbourne to update staffs and students on our research findings using new statistical skills. She has also developed and delivered numerous short courses and workshops, locally and internationally on topics such as critical appraisal, sample size, survey design, meta-analysis, analysis of longitudinal data, multi-level modelling and data analysis and writing.Dr Xie is a Statistical Editor of the Cochrane Library, Consultant of the Global Fund on AIDS in Henan Province, China, and a member of the China Medical Statistics. She is a member of the NHMRC Research Translation Faculty and passionate about translating research into practice.
