Dr Xiao is an Associate Professor in Anatomy and Neuroscience and heads the Neurotrophin and Myelin Laboratory in the Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience, the University of Melbourne. She is a medical graduate and completed her PhD training in neurobiology at the University of Melbourne.
Her laboratory primarily focuses on understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms that regulate peripheral and central nervous system myelination, and the development of new myelin repair therapies for demyelinating diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis. Dr Xiao’s research program relies on a multidisciplinary approach employing molecular, cellular, electrophysiological, pharmacological and genetic techniques combined with preclinical animal models. She regularly publishes in highly influential peer-reviewed journals, serves as an expert panel member and/or reviewer for national and international funding agencies as well as international journals.
