Ebrahim Bani Hassan

“Ebrahim is a musculoskeletal pathophysiologist and veterinary surgeon and internist with interest in imaging and quantitative image analyses.
Since childhood Ebrahim had a passion for medicine and animals. Therefore, he chose to become a veterinarian and made his way into a DrVetMed program (Azad Univ.

of Tabriz), followed by a DrVetSci degree by residency in Large Animal Medicine at the University of Tehran, and Fellowship in the field, ranking first in the nation. Falling obsessively in love with musculoskeletal pathobiology, he started a PhD research on musculoskeletal pathophysiology; followed by relevant research jobs, tutorship and postdocs at the University of Melbourne.

He joined AIMSS (where he calls the best place to work and learn) and Dept of Medicine-The Univ of Melbourne in 2016, and since then he has been working on the pathobiology and diagnostics of osteosarcopenia, osteoporosis, sarcopenia, ectopic fat and particularly marrow adiposity and other musculoskeletal conditions. His collaboration with the Veterinary School continues as before. Also, he is the Program Director for Clinical Imaging and in charge of the clinical imaging and image analysis facilities at AIMSS and Dept of Medicine-Western Health. Hence, he is involved with multiple collaborative projects on bone and muscle health and interactions of the musculoskeletal system with adipose tissue and nervous system.

His other scientific interests are: Bone modelling and remodeling, bone replacement scaffolds, osteoporosis and osteoarthritis and their interaction, animal models of disease and animal medicine/welfare.
