Julie McLeod is a Professor in the area of Curriculum, Equity and Social Change at the Melbourne Graduate School of Education, University of Melbourne. She holds an Australian Research Council Future Fellowship (2012-2016), is Deputy Director of the Melbourne Social Equity Institute (http://www.socialequity.unimelb.edu.au/) and an editor of the international journal Gender and Education.

She has previously been an Assistant Dean (Research Training) and has taught widely across programs in gender studies, sociology of education and qualitative research methods.

Her research in the history and sociology of education encompasses curriculum, youth, gender and feminist studies. Current research projects include a genealogy of adolescence and citizenship education (Educating the Australian Adolescent: http://education.unimelb.edu.au/news_and_activities/projects/eaa); a history of school design and pedagogical innovation (both ARC funded); and her ARC Fellowship project is ‘Youth identity and educational change in Australia since 1950: digital archiving, re-using qualitative data and histories of the present’. This project comprises two research strands: an historical study of social science research on youth and educational inequality, and a multi-site qualitative, longitudinal ‘born digital’ study of young people in the senior years of secondary schooling and into the world beyond, called Making Futures.

Her books include: Researching Social Change: Qualitative Approaches, Sage 2009 (with Rachel Thomson); Troubling Gender and Education, RoutledgeFalmer 2009 (ed. with J. Dillabough and M. Mills); Making Modern Lives: Subjectivity Schooling and Social Change, State University of New York Press, 1996 (with Lyn Yates); Rethinking Youth Wellbeing: Critical Perspectives (ed with K.Wright, Springer 2015) and The Promise of the New: Genealogies of Educational Reform (ed with K.
