Matt Absalom

 

Matt Absalom is a university teacher and researcher, professional linguist, Italian language coach, translator and published author. His current appointment is in the Italian Studies program at The University of Melbourne.


He holds qualifications in music, education, languages and linguistics, and his research interests cover Italian linguistics, computer assisted language learning, languages education and a variety of related issues in applied linguistics
A regular visitor to Italy over the last 30 years, he has carried out research, led study tours including the Federal Government's Endeavour Language Teacher Fellowship to Italy, and negotiated in-country study opportunities for his students.
Matt has a strong background in teacher professional development and is a regular workshop facilitator at professional learning events around the country. He was the coordinating author and lead writer of Cengage’s Esplora! Senior textbook series and recently collaborated as author on the second edition of Pearson's Ecco! Uno and Due textbook series.
His university career in Australia spans three universities: the Australian National University, University of South Australia and the University of Melbourne.
Matt is a passionate advocate for languages and has published opinions in the national media.
In the past he has filled roles in the executive of the Australian Federation of Modern Language Teachers Associations, including President and Editor. He is currently a member of the MLTAV and LCNAU.
