Dr Andrew Kompa is a Senior Scientist at the University of Melbourne Department of Medicine (St Vincent's Hospital). He obtained his PhD in cardiovascular pharmacology from the University of Melbourne and has expertise in conducting pre-clinical investigations and development of novel compounds in various models of cardiovascular and renal disease, collaborating with both the pharmaceutical industry and the University sector.

Dr Kompa's research interests include investigation into the mechanisms of disease progression, in particular cardiac, renal, cardiorenal and vascular disease, targeting specific pathways using novel inhibitors to determine their efficacy as potential proof of concept therapies. More recently, Dr Kompa has directed his research efforts towards investigating the pathways activated by uraemic toxins and their role in renal and cardiorenal disease with a focus on fibrotic, inflammatory and oxidative stress pathways.
