Sun Sheng Han's research and teaching expertise are in the areas of urban and regional development, strategic planning and analytical methods in urban studies. He joined the University of Melbourne in mid 2007.
Sun Sheng taught at the National University of Singapore for over ten years, and was a tenured Associate Professor before relocating to Melbourne. In his career he also worked for the China Academy of Urban Planning and Design (Beijing, China) as a planner; taught at Simon Fraser University and the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada) as a lecturer; and researched in the United Nations Centre for Regional Development (Nagoya, Japan) as a UN Fellow.
Sun Sheng has been working on a research agenda which links theories of the spatial organization of urban activities with the dynamics of institutional and economic restructuring in the Pacific-Asia region. He has been active in pursuing his research agenda and successful in fund raising, graduate student supervision, research collaborations and publications. His works have received recognition internationally, and he has served as consultant to government and private organizations, proposal assessor to funding agencies, and external examiner to PhD examinations. Sun Sheng has been a member of the Editorial Board in Progress in Planning (UK), GeoJournal (the Netherlands), Urban Planning International (China), and the Journal of Urban and Regional Planning (China).
