Robert J. (Bob) Stimson is an analytical human geographer and regional scientist. He has been conducting spatial research in a number of universities in Australia for 49 years.

Bob is a former President of the Regional Science Association International (RSAI), the Western Regional Science Association (US), and the Australia and New Zealand Section of RSAI. He is the immediate Past-President of the IGU Applied Geography Commission and a continuing Member of the Commission. Bob is a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia, a Fellow of RSAI, and a former Fulbright Senior Scholar. He is a Life Member of the Australia and New Zealand Section of RSAI. He is a recipient of the JP Thomson Medal awarded by the Royal Geographical Society (Queensland), the Kohno Award for Outstanding Service to the Regional Science Association International, and the Australia and New Zealand Section RSAI Distinguished Service Award.

Bob is an author of 49 books and monographs and more than 400 book chapters, journal articles and scientific papers.
Bob's substantial research expertise and experience spans numerous fields in which he has published including regional economic development, urban and regional planning, human spatial behaviour, locational analysis, housing studies and housing policy including seniors housing, urban quality of life, spatial decision support systems, and survey research methods.

Bob has undertaken consulting and research for various federal, state and local government agencies across Australia and for AusAid and the World Bank. I 1090-91 he was the Director of The Brisbane Plan which formulated a comprehensive strategy for the development, planning and management of the city up to 2011.

Between 2004 and 2009 Bob was the Convenor of the ARC Research Network in Spatially Integrated Social Science (ARCRNSISS).
