Dr Liddell investigates the underlying causes of neurodegenerative diseases and potential therapeutic strategies, with particular emphasis on the metallobiology of neurodegenerative diseases, glial biology and oxidative stress/inflammation. Methodology incorporates cell culture, animal models and analyses of human tissue.

Cell culture is used to elucidate mechanistic pathways, animal models to probe these pathways in vivo, and findings then correlated to human tissue. Our research has led to translation of the drug copper-ATSM into current clinical trials in Australian motor neuron disease and Parkinson’s disease patients.Dr Jeff Liddell is a postdoc in the research group of A/Prof Peter Crouch in the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, University of Melbourne. He completed his PhD in 2011 at Monash University before undertaking postdoctoral studies with A/Prof Anthony White in the Department of Pathology, University of Melbourne. After completing an NHMRC Peter Doherty fellowship, he joined A/Prof Peter Crouch in 2017.
