BIO
Dr. Amber Willems-Jones is a Teaching Specialist in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

After completing her PhD in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Melbourne in 2004 (on the 'Molecular Interactions of the TyrR Bacterial Regulatory Protein'), Amber moved to the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre to work as a molecular biologist research fellow with the familial breast cancer consortium, kConFab. In 2012, Dr Willems-Jones returned to the University of Melbourne to assume the role of Subject Coordinator/Lecturer for the second-year practical biochemistry subject, Techniques in Molecular Science.
Amber is also the Exchange/Global mobility advisor for the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; and is an active member of the SBS School-wide Casual Teaching Staff Professional Development team who facilitate the delivery of education workshops directed to casual teaching staff (demonstrators) to enhance their teaching experiences.

Research Interests
Dr. Willems-Jones is passionate about ensuring students acquire the requisite skills and understanding of key concepts that lay at the foundation of practical biochemistry & molecular biology. Her research is directed to the development of inquiry-based learning tasks designed to improve student understanding, as well as promoting the importance of self-regulated learning processes and strategies.
In addition, Dr. Willems-Jones has been part of the development of a School-wide Scientific Writing module to enhance the development of scientific communications skills of all students across the School of Biomedical Sciences.
