A/Prof Tu’uhevaha Kaitu’u-Lino is a NHMRC RD Wright (CDF2) Fellow in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Mercy Hospital for Women, University of Melbourne. A/Prof Kaitu’u-Lino leads the Diagnostics Discovery and Reverse Translation team under the wider Translational Obstetrics Group, a team of clinicians and scientists who are focused on developing concepts in the laboratory, and taking these to the clinic.


She currently has two major research focuses; 1) Identifying new diagnostics to clinically identify preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction (to reduce the incidence of stillbirth) 2) Understanding the pathogenesis of these diseases to assist in identifying new therapeutic targets.

A/Prof Kaitu’u-Lino has published 90 peer-reviewed publications to date (May 2020); most are published in leading specialist journals for her field and in prestigious interdisciplinary journals.

A/Prof Kaitu’u-Lino is currently CI on three NHMRC Project Grants, one NHMRC Fellowship and one NHMRC Synergy grant. Since being awarded her PhD in 2008 (and with 32 months of career interruption for child rearing since), she has amassed >$10M in funding (including University and Philanthropic funding)

A/Prof Kaitu’u-Lino has received many awards for presentations given at national and international conferences and also for community engagement, including being awarded Young Tall Poppy of the Year in 2012.
A/Prof Kaitu’u-Lino is currently a Council Member for the Society for Reproductive Biology and has previously served as a Board Member for the Australian Society for Medical Research. She also regularly acts as an ad hoc reviewer for International journals within the field of reproductive biology, including Human Reproduction, Endocrinology and Molecular Human Reproduction.
