Dr. McMillan is the Manager of the Biological Optical Microscopy Platform at the University of Melbourne. The platform brings together the high-end optical microscopes across 10 departments within the Faculty of Medicine, Health & Dentistry and the Faculty of Science (see www.microscopy.unimelb.edu.au).
He gained his PhD in Molecular Parasitology from the University of Glasgow in 2006, before moving to La Trobe University in 2007 after receiving a La Trobe University Postdoctoral Fellowship. He relocated to the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at the University of Melbourne in 2011, before taking up the position of manager of the Biological Optical Microscopy Platform at the start of 2013.His background is in fluorescence imaging of the host/parasite interactions during malaria infections and he has experience in wide field, live cell, confocal & super-resolution microscopy methods.
