A/Prof Natasha Smallwood is a consultant respiratory physician at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and a principal research fellow at the University of Melbourne. In addition to her respiratory qualifications, she holds postgraduate qualifications in Palliative Care and Epidemiology.

Prof Smallwood serves on multiple national committees, including co-convening the Thoracic Society of Australia & New Zealand (TSANZ) COPD specialist interest group (SIG), and the Australian & New Zealand Society for Palliative Medicine Respiratory Palliative Care SIG.

She was also the founding chair of the TSANZ Symptom Support and Palliative Care SIG. Prof Smallwood serves on the Lung Foundation Australia National COPD Co-ordinating Committee and the Palliative Care Clinical Studies Collaborative Breathlessness, Sleep and Trials Management subcommittees. She is the president for the TSANZ Victorian Branch and is an expert reviewer for the COPD-X Guidelines Committee, Health Pathways and the Victorian Government Better Health Channel.

Prof Smallwood completed her PhD and has research interests in breathlessness, severe chronic lung disease (particularly chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis) and palliative care. She established and leads the Royal Melbourne Hospital Advanced Lung Disease Service, which offers specialist integrated respiratory and palliative care.
