Marisa is a research Fellow based at the Centre for Mental Health in the School of Population Health, University of Melbourne. Her work focusses on suicide prevention in men and the use of novel interventions including new media to engage men and reduce suicide risk.

She works on a range of projects concerning building the evidence on suicide prevention in men and male health more broadly. She was part of the core team to set up the Longitudinal Study of Men’s Health. She also led the evaluation of the Man Up social media campaign. Man Up is a multimedia intervention that promotes help seeking for suicidal men. She was part of a qualitative study exploring attitudes toward suicide in men over 80 within the framework of dominant masculinity. And she is currently part of the evaluation team for the Breaking the Man Code workshop delivered in secondary schools to boys in year 10 to 12. She has built a solid track record of publications in men’s health and suicide prevention over the past 10 years. Her work has been presented nationally and internationally. In her continuing role at the Centre for Mental Health she is currently working on the National Leadership in Suicide Prevention Research project where she contributes to the evidence building on suicide prevention research and capacity building within the sector seeking to inform and influence policy.
