Marisa Schlichthorst

Marisa has a multi-disciplinary background with qualifications in business and social science as well as research experiences across a range of fields including organisational psychology and public health. In 2011 she joined the School of Population and Global Health at the Melbourne University, as a Research Fellow the Australian Longitudinal Study on Male Health (Ten to Men).

Her contribution to the development of the baseline questionnaires and establishment of data collection and dissemination protocols was crucial for the successful implementation of the first wave of data collection of this landmark study. The Australian Government Department has since renewed funding for Ten to Men allowing to continue with the second round of data collection. Marisa will stay involved in Ten to Men by contributing to data analysis and publication activities in the years to come.

Early 2015 Marisa has joined Professor Jane Pirkis in a new project on Male Health and Resilience. This project involves an innovative intervention approach, using a TV documentary and online portal to engage with males on improving resilience and overall health. Efficacy and effectiveness of this novel intervention will be tested in a randomised controlled trial as well as in field by using Ten to Men data of Waves 2 and 3.

Her research interests are on male health and wellbeing and protective factors to health including help seeking and service use, social engagement and healthy living.
