Mark Boland

Mark completed his PhD in photonuclear research measuring a dipole state in the halo nucleus He-6. He then completed a two year postdoc at the MAX-lab in Sweden on the nuclear physics beamline.

While there Mark discovered the field of accelerator physics and on completion of his postdoc returned to Melbourne as an accelerator physicist at the Australian Synchrotron Project. He reached Principal Scientist in the Accelerator Physics Group and a Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the School of Physics at the University of Melbourne, co-supervising several undergraduate, Masters and PhD students in the Experimental Particle Physics Group. Mark was the co-founder and a director of the Australian Collaboration for Accelerator Science, an organisation linking all the top accelerator science research facilities in Australia. He was awarded the 2014 Fulbright Professional Scholarship in Nuclear Science and Technology to conduct research at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory at Stanford University. In 2017 Mark took up a faculty position in Canada at the University of Saskatchewan in the Department of Physics and Engineering Physics and is also the Machine Director at the Canadian Light Source.
