Daniel is an Honorary Research Fellow in the School of Social and Political Science and Director of the Office of Medicinal Cannabis in the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services. He is currently leading a number of studies relating to the use and health effects of psychoactive plants, which include Australia's first ayahuasca and mental health research, based at the University of Melbourne and being undertaken with an international team of researchers from Brazil Spain Switzerland and the Czech Republic; as well as a number of prospective studies investigating the use safety and effectiveness of prescribed medicinal cannabis products in Australia . Daniel is the co-founder of the University of Melbourne's Medicinal Psychedelics Research Network and has expertise relating to the mental health effects of psychedelics as well as drug regulation, policy, and development.

He has led a wide range of research studies involving partnerships with universities NGO's business an all levels of government, and is also a psychotherapist specialising in the use of neurofeedback for the treatment of anxiety disorders and complex trauma.
