Richard is a sociologist whose research is concerned with the causes and mitigation of social marginalisation. He has over three decades’ experience working in welfare and community services, including youth unemployment, youth homelessness, youth theatre, juvenile justice, adult migrant education, generalist youth services and public housing.
His research interests and practice are grounded in this experience and in his strong commitment to people pushed to the fringes of mainstream society.
