Michael Cantoni is a Professor in the Control and Signal Processing Group of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at The University of Melbourne, Australia, where he has held various positions since mid 2000. He received the PhD degree in 1998 from The University of Cambridge, UK, and the BE (Electrical) and BSc (Applied Mathematics) degrees in 1995 from The University of Western Australia, Australia.

He has held post-doctoral positions at The University of Cambridge and St. John's College, Cambridge, UK, and a visiting academic position at Imperial College London, UK. In 2014, he jointly received the IEEE Control Systems Technology Award for the development and implementation of controls for irrigation channels and water management with industry partner Rubicon Water. He has served as an Associate Editor for Automatica (2015-2018), Systems & Control Letters (2007-2013), and IET Control Theory and Applications (2007-2009), and as Section Editor for the Springer Reference Works Encyclopedia of Systems and Control. His research interests include mathematical systems theory, robust and optimal control, sampled-data and networked systems, numerical methods for optimization, and applications in water and power distribution networks.
