Irma Mooi-Reci

 

Irma Mooi-Reci is A/Professor and Head of the discipline of Sociology, social policy and social theory at the School of Social and Political Sciences (SSPS) at the University of Melbourne, Australia. She serves in the Advisory Editorial Board of the renowned journal of Social Problems, is Adjunct Senior Research Fellow of the Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research, an Associate of the Centre for Vocational and Educational Pathways at University of Melbourne, and Lead investigator on a 4-year funded research project by the Australian Research Council.

Irma is also a Fellow of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Children and Families over the Life Course where she is involved in the data reference group that aims to improve the Big Data potential in Australia.

Her research agenda encompasses three main areas: (1) the socioeconomic consequences of disruptive events such as unemployment, joblessness and casual employment; (2) the intergenerational consequences of joblessness; (3) application and innovation of quantitative methods for panel data. She has published in various journals including Human Relations, Social Science Research, European Sociological Review, British Journal of Industrial Relations and Social Forces. Recently she published a co-authored quantitative methods book on market research using Stata. Her work on unemployment and joblessness has been internationally recognised through various visiting positions at top universities including Oxford University, Nuffield College (2017), and the University of Madison Wisconsin (2010, 2011 and 2012).
