Dr. Katve-Kaisa Kontturi is an Honorary Fellow She was a McKenzie Postdoctoral Fellow (2014-2017) in the Victorian College of the Arts at the University of Melbourne. Her research interests spread across material-relational philosophies of the body and art, new materialist research practices, contemporary art-making, craftivism, fashion and fabrics.

The key question of her work, both research and curatorial, is how the political in art is inseparable from the affective and material qualities of art.

In her current art-based research project she studies Minor Activisms of Art and runs, for example, a Craftivist group for refused asylum seekers, and continues the Feminist Colour-IN project she started in 2015 with Dr Kim Donaldson. This project elaborates on her McKenzie project "Affective Fabrics of Contemporary Art: Stitching Global Relations" that focused on the ubiquity of fabrics in today’s art world, and looked for example, into fashion exhibitions travelling from a country to another, knitted and crocheted demonstration banners, and multi/cross-cultural craft collectives.

Katve-Kaisa co-convenes the Matters of the Body Research Cluster at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music. She is also a founding member of the European New Materialist Network funded by the ISCH-COST (2014-2018), and co-leads its working group “Embracing Creative Arts”.
