Dr. Alex S. Ira is currently a Research Fellow at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Melbourne, where he leads the development of a Machine Learning framework for controller tuning. He received a PhD degree from the University of Melbourne, Australia in 2015 while bachelor's and master's degree (with highest honours) from the University of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2010.
He was awarded International Postgraduate Research Scholarship and Australian Postgraduate Award by the Australian Federal Government during his PhD. In his previous positions, he had experience with Networked Control Systems, Model Predictive Control, Extremum Seeking Control and Iterative Learning Control. His interest is in model-based and model-free control and optimisation. (In 2017 he changed his name from Merid Ljesnjanin to Alex Salkica Ira.)
