Simone is an NHMRC Emerging Leadership Postdoctoral Fellow in the L. Mackay Laboratory at the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity, The University of Melbourne. She completed a highly successful PhD in 2019, during which she uncovered important roles for immune cells known as tissue-resident memory T cells in protection against cancer and viral infections.

Simone's exceptional research achievements have led to her publishing first-author papers in leading scientific journals including Nature and Nature Immunology, and resulted in her receiving multiple competitive awards including the Centenary Institute Medical Innovation Award (In Memory of Neil Lawrence Prize), VCCC Picchi Award for Excellence in Cancer Research (Basic Science), QIAGEN PhD Achievement Award for top PhD student, American Association of Immunologists Trainee Achievement Award and the Morgan Mansell Young Melanoma Researcher of the Year Award (2019).
