Dr Laura Scardamaglia MBBS FACD is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne. She is the Clinical Leader and Consultant dermatologist at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
She is the Head of Dermatology at Western Health, and a Consultant Dermatologist at the Royal Children’s Hospital. She graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1994. Laura completed a medical residency at St Vincent’s hospital, Royal Children’s Hospital and was the Immunology Registrar at the Royal Melbourne and Walter and Eliza Hall Institute in 1999. That year Laura was awarded the Cleveland Young Investigator of the Year. She obtained her fellowship in Dermatology in 2003 and was awarded the Travelling Fellowship for being the most meritorious candidate in Australia. She furthered her training in Dermatology at the North Western University in Chicago, and the University of California San Francisco in the USA, as well as Great Ormond Street in London.
She has been a consultant dermatologist since 2004, with a special interest in complex medical dermatology, particularly Immunobullous Diseases, Connective Tissue Diseases, Vascular Anomalies and Immunological Dermatology disorders.
She is a lecturer to medical students at the University of Melbourne. She is involved in clinical research, and is an invited speaker at local and national dermatology conferences. She has supervised MD student research projects, and is well published in peer reviewed journals and book chapters. She is a Supervisor of Training, and Clinical Supervisor for the Australasian College of Dermatologists, and was recently awarded a Presidential Citation.
