Soheil is a Research Fellow in Urban Analytics at the Centre for Spatial Data Infrastructures and Land Administration in The University of Melbourne. He managed and delivered several research and development projects including Fishermans Bend Digital Twin, a collaborative project with Victorian Government, Department of Environment, Land, Water, and Planning (DELWP) as well as Spatially Enabled Platform to Support Liveability Planning for Singapore Government (Urban Redevelopment Authority).

His research, practice, and teaching interests are developing multi-dimensional Planning Support Systems and analytical tools enabling planners and decision makers for evidence-based and data driven future plans. He also managed and successfully delivered a research funded by the Australian Research Council - Linkage, Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities, titled: "Urban Analytics Data Infrastructure". This ARC Linkage project was a collaboration of Six Australian Universities including UNSW, University of Queensland,The University of Western Australia, University of Canberra, and University of Wollongong, lead by CSDILA at The University of Melbourne. Soheil leads the research and development on enabling spatial information and technological innovation in smart and sustainable urban planning and design to assess urban sustainability and quality of life in local, national and international levels. Prior to this, he was a senior lecturer in the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and served as a chief investigator and co-investigator in several research projects about urban gentrification, affordable housing, and the impact of built environment on public health and welfare, funded by UTM, the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia, and UNDP Malaysia.Soheil earned his Masters in Urban Planning in 2004 and PhD in Urban & Regional Planning in 2012. He has an extensive and hands on experience in consultancy, research and teaching about urban planning, particularly land use planning and development, planning support systems, as well as planning 2.0 (Web technology in urban planning), and spatial statistics, analysis and modelling. He has also previous experience as an urban planning consultant in Middle East, focusing on marginal communities and inner-city redevelopments that provide practical value to his research outcomes.
