Dr Ellen Menkhorst leads the Decidual Biology team in the Embryo Implantation Laboratory. Ellen is passionate about the importance of the intrauterine environment for a healthy pregnancy and lifelong health of the child and mother.

Dr Menkhorst has established a research program to investigate the role of the decidua during implantation and placentation. By understanding the mechanisms which underlie implantation and early placentation, she aims to identify factors which can be used as biomarkers or therapeutic targets to treat infertility, recurrent pregnancy loss or placental insufficiency leading to diseases including preeclampsia/intrauterine growth restriction.
