Dr Anita Archer is Research Coordinator for the Enlightenment, Romanticism, and Contemporary Culture Research Unit in the Faculty of Arts. She holds an Honours Degree in History of Art (Leicester) and a PhD in Art History from the University of Melbourne.

Anita’s research focus is global art markets with particular interest in the dynamics of emerging markets, the strategic mechanisms of international art auctions, valuations and pricing of contemporary art and the networked activities of art world intermediaries. Anita is a contributing researcher for the upcoming Art Market Dictionary – AMD Online, published by De Gruyter. An alumna of Sotheby's Institute, London, Anita's research interest stems from her extensive professional experience in the global art field as an international auctioneer, and independent art consultant specialising in Asian contemporary art. Anita is a founding member of the Art Consulting Association of Australia and is an approved valuer of Fine Art with the Auctioneers and Valuers Association of Australia (AVAA). She is the Victorian Representative for TAASA (The Asian Arts Society of Australia). Anita’s current research projects including investigation of historic and contemporary art markets of Southeast Asia and assessment and analysis of the current art market for Australian art domestically and in a global context.
